Tips for a Successful Independence Day
Happy July from Trailside45 Apartments Blog! With Independence Day being only a few days away, we’re here to give you a few easy tips to help you succeed at celebrating one of America’s favorite holidays of the year. As you prepare to celebrate the 4th of July this near your Traverse City, MI apartment, consider the following tips:
Communicate Your Expectations
When everyone you’re spending Independence with has a completely separate idea of how they want their holiday to go, it’s much easier for those you’re with to feel anxious or disappointed. As you finalize this year’s plans, take a minute to ask everyone what they’re anticipating most about the holiday — and perhaps even what they’re not looking forward to — so that everyone’s top expectations are met. While this could mean doing something that’s not on the top of your list or sitting out on an activity you really dislike, there’s a better chance that everyone will end the day feeling happy and satisfied.
Get Enough Sleep
Most people have work off for the 4th of July, so it’s really easy to end up staying up late the night before. While this might be how some prefer to spend their time off, it’s probably not the best approach for those who plan to be involved in the festivities from dawn to dusk. Little sleep mixed with a packed day is more likely to lead to a crash at some point during the day, taking away from the fun of holiday activities. Getting enough sleep, however, is a great way to ensure that you won’t get depleted of energy before the day is over.
The weather in July is typically quite hot, so staying as hydrated as possible is one vital step to the 4th of July. While it’s easy to think that chugging a huge bottle of water right before going out in the sun will keep you hydrated, it takes a little more effort than that. For starters, make sure you’re drinking enough water consistently throughout the days leading up to Independence Day as well as on the day itself. Next, pay attention to how much sun you’re getting and wear enough sunscreen so that you don’t feel dehydrated or exhausted from the heat. Since alcohol is often a component of the festivities, be mindful of how much you drink, and get enough water in between drinks so that it doesn’t catch up to you later.
Finally, don’t forget to be flexible and have fun. You likely have a picture of what your ideal 4th looks like, but surprises are bound to happen and plans often change. Do what you can beforehand to ensure that you get to spend your day how you prefer, but when the itinerary gets shuffled around on the day of, don’t be afraid to adapt to what’s happening and go with the flow.
